EQUIPMENT FOR PARTICIPANTS IN HKK’S BEGINNER KAYAKING COURSE FOR ADULTS
- The club’s single and double kayaks, paddles, spray skirts, and flotation vests are provided for use during the courses.
- No special paddling attire is required for the courses, but participants should be aware of the cool weather in the marine area and the possibility of getting wet.
- Avoid bringing valuables to the course. Belongings may get wet in the kayak, and electronics do not tolerate salty seawater.
- The sports equipment listed below is sufficient.
WHEN PADDLING IN EARLY SUMMER AND COOL WEATHER, WE RECOMMEND:
- a thermal base layer
- followed by a warm shirt and pants; avoid cotton whenever possible
- a sweatshirt or wool sweater
- a water-repellent but breathable windbreaker on top (a windbreaker is sufficient)
- wool socks or kayaking/open-water swimming shoes; in the kayak, you’ll be in your socks, shoes, or barefoot
- headwear, e.g., a beanie or cap
WHEN PADDLEING IN THE WARM WEATHER OF MID- AND LATE SUMMER, WE RECOMMEND
- a T-shirt and shorts
- however, bring a windbreaker just in case the weather changes
- sunglasses and a hat
- bring sunscreen
- in a kayak, you’ll be in socks, slippers, or barefoot
ALWAYS REMEMBER
- to bring a change of clothes to the course location
- a swimsuit and towel for the sauna
- a rubber strap or similar for your glasses and sunglasses to prevent them from falling off; the club can provide one if needed
- on the last day of the course, bring a change of clothes (packed in a waterproof bag)
- Starting in early June, bring about 5 euros for the café on the last day of the course
WE DO NOT RECOMMEND
- wearing gloves while paddling; the club has windproof gloves available if needed
