Helsinki Canoe Club (HKK) organizes beginner kayaking courses for adults at the Helsinki Canoe Center, where participants learn the basics of kayaking.
Adult courses last a total of 10 hours + preparatory assignments. Courses starting on Mondays begin with registration at 5:30 p.m., these courses are held on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday, with teaching starting at 6:00 p.m. each day. Courses starting on Saturdays begin with registration at 9:30 a.m. and continue on Sunday starting at 10:00 a.m. On weekdays, course sessions last about 3 hours on the first two days and about 4 hours on the last day. Weekend courses last about 5 hours on both days.
The curriculum for HKK’s beginner course focuses on sport-specific skills, it exceeds the content requirements of the “Meloja 1” basic course established by the Finnish Canoeing and Rowing Federation and places a much greater emphasis on developing paddlers’ technical skills. Our courses touch on many aspects of the SMSL’s “Meloja 2” training program. HKK’s courses include comprehensive online training with high-quality video instructions, a safety boat accompanies the courses and after the rescue drill, our participants get to enjoy a sauna, swim in the sea, and shower.
The courses are intended for people over the age of 16.
The courses are held at Helsinki Canoe Center, Rajasaarenpenger 8, 00250 Helsinki.
Those who complete the course can join the club and receive a course participant discount voucher, which entitles them to a discount on the usage fee for the club’s kayaks and the use of our sauna during their first year of membership (through October 31).

A minimum of 10 students is required for the course to be held; in the event of a cancellation (which is extremely unlikely), we will notify those who have registered one week in advance and arrange an alternative course date.
